The blue leghorn has the most beautiful blue plumage ranging in colour from light to dark grey blue colours. it is one of our favorites especially when the white earlobes grow to contrast with the red comb and blue feathers. Really lovely.
The colour is one of the most difficult to produce due to the combination of colours and genes needed to retain the blue colour.
The blue colour, being in a way delicate and vulnerable to strong sunlight, means that the birds be protected from too much sun and so they must be provided with shade for the greater part of the day.
The blue leghorn looks almost identical to a plymouth rock chick and then as they mature, the blue feathers begin to appear.
They are good layers for pure breeds as they rarely go broody and will supply you with eggs for 3/4 of the year. Their nature is quite flighty which is why getting them as day olds mean you can love them to pieces helping them settle. Being a lighter weight bird, they can arttempt to jump a fence so higher fences are recommended that is at least 1.5m when adults. Saying that, they will hang with the gang on the grass if all are happily foraging there.

The birds are sold at this age as they are perfectly suited to growing with your family and based on demand.
