Where are you and how long does it take to get there?

We're at 408 Mount Glorious Road, Samford Valley QLD 4520, at the base of Mt Glorious Road. It's about 35 minutes from the Brisbane CBD, roughly 35km door to door.

What are your opening hours?

Monday to Friday 8am to 1pm, and Saturday and Sunday 8am to 2pm.

Do I need to book?

Not to visit the farm or eat in the cafe, just turn up. Farm experiences like the Fire Pit, Walk the Goats, Walk Lamborghini and the Duckling Sleepover do need to be booked, because each one runs at a set time. Holiday Chicken Care and Book the Farm are arranged by phone.

Is there an entry fee?

No. Visiting the farm, walking the river trail and looking around the Farm Shop are all free. You only pay for food, products and booked experiences.

Are dogs welcome?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We are a dog friendly farm and cafe. Dogs are welcome on leads, and there is plenty of open space to enjoy together.

Question 6

Is the farm suitable for children?

Accepted Answer

Children are very welcome, but City Chicks is a working farm rather than a childcare venue. Children must stay under the direct supervision of their parent or carer at all times, and we do not run supervised activities for children.

Is the property wheelchair accessible?

Accepted Answer

The cafe, farm shop and upper animal viewing areas are the easiest parts of the property to access. The Farm Walk follows gravel pathways with some uneven, gently undulating terrain, so it may not suit everyone with limited mobility. We have standard toilet facilities; wheelchair-accessible toilets are not yet available. Please call Ingrid on 0435 226 912 before your visit if you are unsure.

Can I pat the animals?

You are welcome to admire the animals and hand feed them using a Feed Cup from the Farm Shop. Handling is limited to our booked experiences, where an experienced staff member is with you.

What experiences can I book?

Accepted Answer

Fire Pit Experience $49 for up to four people, Walk the Goats $59 for two people, Walk Lamborghini $29, Duckling Sleepover $85, and exclusive use of the whole farm from $220 per hour.

Are the experiences suitable for children?

Accepted Answer

Walk the Goats and Walk Lamborghini are relaxed farm experiences designed for adult visitors. If children come along with a participating adult they must remain under that adult’s direct supervision at all times.

Can I hire the whole farm for an event?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Book the Farm gives you exclusive use of the cafe area and the farm for $220 per hour, available 2pm to 9pm daily. It suits birthdays, corporate team days, club outings, photography sessions, hens parties and proposals. Bookings are essential, call Ingrid on 0435 226 912.

How do gift certificates work?

A City Chicks gift certificate is a gift card with a balance on it, emailed straight to whoever you are gifting it to. It can be spent on anything at the farm: an experience, a hen, a hive, or lunch in the cafe. $50 is the standard amount, with $100, $150 and $200 also offered, or you can enter any amount you like.

Can I collect chickens from the farm?

Yes, and farm collection is free. All live birds are collected from our Samford Valley farm, or we can deliver.

Do you deliver chickens, and what does it cost?

Accepted Answer

Farm collection is free. Local delivery within 15km of Samford Valley is $90. Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast delivery is $99.

Do you deliver native bee hives?

Accepted Answer

Local pickup from Samford Valley is free. Express post is $49 within 15km of Samford Valley, $69 to the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast, and $99 to Sydney, NSW or the rest of Queensland.

What do I need to get started with backyard chickens?

Accepted Answer

Our Baby Chick Package at $165 covers everything for day old chicks, including the heat lamp, starter feed, bedding, feeder, drinker and a care guide. The Big Girl Package at $299 covers grown pullets, with feed, grit, feeder, drinker, herbs, mealworms, lice and worming treatments and an information sheet.

Can you look after my chickens while I am away?

Yes. Holiday Chicken Care is $18 a day for up to six chickens. Your hens get their own private coop on fresh grass, separate from our other birds, with fresh food, clean water and daily health checks. Bookings are essential, call Ingrid on 0435 226 912.

Question 19

I have a rooster I cannot keep. Can you help?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Rooster Removal is a safe and humane rehoming service at $25. We also offer Chicken Retirement at $20, giving older hens a peaceful retirement on our farm. If the crowing is the problem, we stock No Crow Rooster Collars in five sizes.
